At the age of 40, my wife bought me a special birthday present: a brand new diamondback bicycle. Not that I didn’t have any experience in riding a bicycle, it’s even hard to remember when I started. But I have a clear image of a ‘small me’ riding an iron Raleigh bicycle in my village.
We used to attach an empty cigarette box with a clip to the front wheel, so that it would make a noise while riding. Those bikes where very different from the bikes our children ride: no suspension, no gear, no designer seat, and no disk brakes. It didn’t matter that they were very heavy simple bikes.
They made me happy!
Many things have changed since then. In November 2009, I took part in a gorgeous bike riding trip along the beautiful mountain trails of Chiang Mai, Thailand. We were a group of 7 friends. I made up my mind to share my experiences with others, so that more of us can enjoy the best sports activity I can imagine:
About Me & Bicycles and Bicycling Websites
My official education is electrical engineer, with years of experience in software development. In the last 10 years I am developing software for GPS navigation. Just like many technical people, I suffer from the common weakness: My marketing skills are quite limited. I found myself with good products, but without customers.
Over the years, I had some ideas of how to put my creation in the market. The last one was to build a web site that will help me in the mission.
I have a neighbor and a dear friend, Elad Shippony. For several years, Elad told me inspiring stories about SBI (Site Build It), about working from home, the freedom it offers and as a way to make my dreams come true.
Until the end of 2009, I had neither the time, energy, nor courage to make my dream come true: creating my own web site, my own business, and beginning my journey towards the goal of working from home. Elad suggested I use SBI for building my web site for the purpose of selling my software. This is how I was exposed to the wonderful world of SBI.
As you can see, this site is not about GPS software. It is about me and about my main hobby, bicycle riding. My GPS software site is still waiting for me. But I have found so much joy in building this website, that I am willing to put my other dream aside, at least for now.
Over the wears I’ve moved to WordPress, the #1 leading CMS (Content Management System) in the word. It is based on PHP scripting language, as well on the Open Source phpMySQL server. As I became more experienced in creating websites, I feel that I am ready to move on to a more advanced (and challenging) platform, and I am so happy with this move! Take a look at some of my other websites:

Guided And Self Guided Bicycle Tours
A “Light” Story About Heavy Bicycles
One day, while riding the routine 22-mile weekend bike ride near my home, my friend and I met a strange guy. He was riding a very basic, heavy bicycle and was wearing jeans and a casual T-shirt. There were no bicycling gloves on his hands, and while my friend and I had bicycle helmets, he was wearing only a hat.
We were right in the middle of our ride. We were waiting for my wife to arrive with a car, carrying spare bicycle inner tubes to fix our fifth flat tires of the day! Indeed it was a very unlucky day. The man was approaching us to ask for biking directions. At first we thought he was a construction worker who was using his bike to move around from place to place. But then we heard his story:
Three months earlier he has left his home town, Berlin, about 1000 miles from where we were, heading on an unlimited international bicycle tour.
I myself have a lot of experience with international bicycle touring, mainly day trips in and around major cities, but also many cross-country and mountain biking trips. You are invited to read more about our bicycle trip in Japan and about our Rhine River Tour.
On this web-site you can find stories of bicycle tours of all kinds. Some of them are guided and some are self guided bicycle tours. I love them all!
