As in most cases, and especially if you are cycling in a country that has developed a cycling network, I recommend you plan a self-guided cycling trip over a guided trip. The freedom to choose the exact route, cycling speed, time to start, and when and where to stop, it’s all up to you, and to your friends that are sharing with you this great adventure. And this route, from Brno to Prague has everything that you can expect from a mini-touring cycling trip.
If you come from abroad you probably use the friendly Prague airport as your arrival and departure gate to the country. You can either use your touring bicycle or rent a bike from a local store (such as Praha Bike, where we rented one of our bicycles). Train service from Prague to Brno is quite frequent and efficient, and you can take the bicycle with you onboard the train.
Cycling from Brno to Prague is not too demanding, and if you follow this plan you will find enough opportunities to take relaxing breaks. We start the 2’nd riding day with a steep climb on the southern side of lake Vír. It is a quite demanding climb but is also short, and very rewarding. There are some nice places to stop and look at the lake and the beautiful forest surrounding it.
For the rest of the day you will ride in the countryside. If you are traveling during the right season you will be able to see the foliage, and enjoy collecting and eating apple fruits (obviously with permission).
On the final 15 Km you will ride on some small and midsize road, approaching the beautiful city of Litomyšl. I would recommend you to ride along the main city square, called Smetana square, named after the well-known composer that lived there.
